Anatomy of Solidarity

Anatomy of Solidarity invites Bristol’s communities to explore the city’s culture of resistance, creativity, and collective strength.

The project began with conversations between Seeta and her mother, reflecting on Bristol’s united response to racism in the 1900s. Their memories revealed how diverse communities stood together, transforming pain into resilience and solidarity From these roots grew a project that honours Bristol’s history while asking what solidarity means today.

This autumn, SPD/we will collaborate with local groups and associations to design weekly creative programmes shaped by participants’ voices. Each gathering will explore why we connect, the issues that drive action, and the role of culture in building belonging.

Workshops will invite sharing of stories, ideas, and practices, offering different perspectives on solidarity across generations and communities.

The project will be guided by the creativity and ambitions of those who take part. Producer Jess Neil and Project Manager Katy Noakes will connect groups with facilitators, speakers, and tutors to support their journeys. Together, we will create acts of solidarity that honour the past and imagine compassionate ways of standing together in the present.
