Podcast episode 8: Healing from our traumas

This podcast episode is slightly different from our usual one!

Join Aishani Ghosh and Dr Mubin Syed (a.k.a Desidoc) as he takes us through his research about the physiological epigenetic changes that have occurred due to colonial trauma.

This is a super insightful conversation where Dr Syed explains how we can better take care of our bodies specifically for South Asians. This episode is not just for dancers/athletes but relevant to anyone from the South Asian diaspora. I was drawn to having him on this podcast because he emphasises that knowledge is power which can heal intergenerational trauma to allow for better changes in the next generations to come.

Dr Mubin Syed is a nationally recognised, board certifies authority on radiology, particularly in treating strokes and obesity. He is a practicing physician and an award-winning medtech entrepreneur and inventor holding 19 patents.

In 2017 after having a heart attack, he began examining the causes behind the high rate, prematurity and severity of cardiovascular disease that affect South Asians and the diaspora. This led him to explore how colonial trauma has changed the epigenetic of South Asian physiology. You can read his findings in his book –

“Healing from Our History: How Colonial-Era Famines Led to a Modern South Asian Health crisis.”
