2009 to 2011

Premiered at the Clore Studio: Upstairs, Royal Opera House June 2009

SHRINGARA: A JOURNEY OF DESIRE

British born Seeta Patel is one of the most exciting talents in the British Asian dance scene. As a student of Mavin Khoo and, among others, his guru the world-renowned Padmashri Adyar K. Lakshman, she has already made an impression with UK audiences creating roles with companies including Mavin Khoo Dance.

This is a much-anticipated UK tour of this classical soloist within the tradition of Bharatanatyam - one of India's rich and now most popular dance forms.

Seeta guides is through a fantasy world of the 'sacred female' and explores the complex nuances of desire. Through 18th century musical scores the dancer challenges our perception of time, defining herself as a contemporary 'instrument' that channels the love poems of the past, making them live in the present.

Shringara: A Journey of Desire was premiered at the Royal Opera House, London (2009) to a sold-out audience. With lead vocals by the inspirational Pushkala Gopal and choreography by Mavin Khoo, this is a beautifully accomplished work.
